This neglected backyard has been transformed into a modern oasis with a masterful combination of materials and plant species

This outdoors belongs to the couple Kurt Budnick – administrative director in a designer company and Tom Henriksson – graphic designer. It’s part of her final dream home.

“We contacted the owner and talked to the architect Monica Kuhn. We said to her, as soon as we found the right house, she should redesign it. ”

A year later, they bought a three-storey, semi-detached Victorian-style house and Monica started redesigning it, “The garden they liked in the neighboring yard was fenced and private” – says Monica. “He served as a separate room – dining area and living area in one. This is a view of the garden from the third floor. There are two areas: a living area and the storage room for the garden utensils.

Comfortable sofa / daybed

The dominant red furniture set and the throw pillow in the sitting area at the far end of the garden are cleverly combined with the glass panels on the back of the house.

At the front of this Toronto garden are a massive, dark table and chairs on the paved walkway. Behind it there is a water system, which is a great architectural element.

Partition and screen

“I wanted to turn the dividing wall into a living wall” – says designer Terry McGlade. He cultivated low-maintenance plant species and mounted stainless steel ropes on the wall.
